Speaker:
Ken Bennett
Ken Bennett has worked for Microsoft for 13 years and has seven years of experience as a Security Operations Consultant with Microsoft Services. Before this, he worked in a security advisory role for Premier TAMs and customers and has developed several service offerings and workshops to help customers improve their security maturity through people, process and technology.
Ken is an early Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker and possesses his IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundations certification. He has performed many types of security engagements for all variety of Microsoft customers. Some specifics include deploying smartcards for universities, hardening servers and workstations for telecommunications companies, deploying secure wireless for health insurance companies, and developing a security risk management process for a major US retailer.
He often uses puts his experiences to work in the form of seminars and workshops for customers and is even called on to develop and deliver readiness solutions for Microsoft field and internal personnel. His work with the Defense in Depth series of workshops include contributing to all of their development. In the case of the Defense in Depth: Securing Windows Server 2003, Ken participated in the initial development and all updates and has delivered the workshop over 25 times throughout its lifecycle so far. He is one of only 3 master trainers for this workshop and was a co-author of its predecessor, Securing Enterprise Platforms on Windows 2000.
Customers he has worked with repeatedly request him for additional work, citing his fun attitude and ability to quickly boil down complex problems into smaller, more manageable ones and collaborate with his team and the customer to find solutions for each. Ken also prides himself in leaving customers with a complete solution for addressing a problem rather than a band aid that “gets them through the project”. He feels a complete solution for any problem must start with a standard process approach using the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) process model. He then insists on sufficient knowledge transfer, operational and support documentation and testing to ensure a high level of service availability once the solution is transferred to the operations team.
Ken is excited about Microsoft’s solutions for security and loves to speak with customers about how Microsoft technologies and operational precision can improve security. He welcomes your inquires via e-mail to kenben@microsoft.com.
