Event Overview
Most would agree that a student’s educational experience is enhanced by recording lectures and guest speakers. Lecture capture and web conferencing technologies provide students with the opportunity to review obtuse material and connect with scholars in the field. This workshop will present several options for recording course content for use inside and outside of class time and explore best practices for supporting these initiatives.
The day is framed around four specific use cases with built-in opportunities to share what is happening on our campuses. Conversations and presentations will provide a basis for possible uses and potential solutions. Hands-on “play-time" is also scheduled to allow participants time to explore a variety of options and to frame discussions on how these solutions may be implemented after leaving the session. If you are doing something interesting at your institution, we encourage you to bring your ideas to this collaborative session. There will be time to hear from you too.
Session Outcomes:
- Identify the characteristics, challenges, opportunities, and tools for specific lecture capture use cases.
- Gain insight into policies, practices, and legal requirements regarding lecture capture. Who owns the content? Where can it (or should it) be placed? Do you need a “sign off” for capturing faculty, guest speakers, or students? And, how do you ensure captured content is accessible?
- Develop a lecture capture tool-kit that can be implemented at your institution.
- Network and make connections with colleagues.
