Can Twitter really be useful in academia? Tweet This SIG! will cover everything from Twitter basics to advanced uses in higher education. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of this powerful real-time communication tool along with a Twitter toolkit to help get them started on a new and exciting Twitter adventure.

Whether you are a skeptic, a new user or an advanced user, Tweet This SIG! will introduce you to a variety of ideas and best practices for using Twitter in teaching, learning and research.

We’ll introduce the basics of Twitter; share tips and tricks for managing Twitter accounts; talk about using Twitter for marketing your program, student group or department; address using Twitter for synchronous and asynchronous class discussions; and discuss digital citizenship in the age of real-time web communications.

Attendees will leave this SIG with everything they need to get up and tweeting, including ideas and strategies to take back to your campus or share with your boss. PLUS! a whole slew of new Twitter contacts.

Who should attend? Faculty, marketing specialists, instructional designers and technologists, help desk staff, library staff, program coordinators, student group coordinators, academic department technology specialists, Twitter users new and old.

Bring a laptop, netbook, smartphone or other mobile device and be prepared to tweet!
