Scholarship Award Announced
Katie Vale Scholarship Award Recipient: Sonia Sandoval
NERCOMP is pleased to announce Sonia Sandoval, of Union College as the recipient of this year’s Katie Vale Memorial Scholarship.
As a student at Union College, Sonia Sandoval was our top ITS student technician. Sonia had a remarkable academic record, as well as a drive for community activism–organizing rallies with high profile government representatives around the protection of women's rights, the environment, and civil rights. She launched “FoodScraps360”, a composting business she ultimately sold to begin a career in higher education IT. In 2019, I hired Sonia back as a supervisor to a team of 20+ student technicians, where she consistently seeks out new challenges and works tirelessly to improve the quality of ITS classroom technology and event support. She serves on committees and panels for Diversity and Inclusion, while pursuing technology certifications and a graduate degree in learning design and technology from Harvard Extension school. With endless high praise from faculty, staff, and College leadership for her unflappable professionalism, high emotional intelligence, and creative vision, I enthusiastically nominate Sonia Sandoval for this honor celebrating Katie’s legacy.
