Managing and Successfully Recruiting Millennials for the Higher Ed IT Work Force

Matthew Conlon
As the Manager of Digital Learning Centers at UMass Lowell, Matthew is the University’s key staff position responsible for the smooth operation, of student computing resources. He ensures that the Digital Learning Centers are easily accessible, academically effective and fully functional. He works with both physical and virtual computing environments across the campus to ensure space for both teaching and drop-in computing. In this role Matt is in constant contact with key faculty and administrators to design, develop and improve all Digital Learning Centers.

Matt has been with the University of Massachusetts Lowell since 2010, previously on the Platform Services Team and before that the IT Support Specialist serving the Manning School of Business. He holds a Masters of Science & Information Technology from UMass Boston and a BS in Management from Bridgewater State University. Before coming to UML Matt worked at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Matthew also instructs students at UMass as an adjunct professor in the MIST department.


David Gannon
David Gannon is the Director of Campus Technology Services (CTS) at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. In this position, he oversees campus-wide user services including the faculty/staff Helpdesk, the student laptop program and Laptop Central. Previously, David was the Associate Director of Academic Computing and Media Services at Bryant where much of his time was spent maximizing the utilization and effectiveness of technology in the classroom. This function continues to be an important part of his current position. David has been a member of the faculty at Bryant for over twenty years and has been involved in education for over twenty two. 

 

Matthew Maderos
With over 20 years of IT experience in Higher Education, Matt is currently the Associate Director of Client Services for the Boston University Medical Campus overseeing the Service Desk, and Desktop Support.  Prior to BU Matt was the Assistant Director of Support Services at the Mass College of Art and Design for 6 years, At MassArt, Matt implemented Footprints as their first ticketing system and created the first 9-5 fully-staffed helpdesk, as well as migrated the phone system to  VOIP, and supported the AVMS area.

Prior to MassArt, Matt spent 12 years with Bridgewater State College where he started out as a support technician and progressed to managing desktop services and led a successfully implementation of their campus-wide student laptop initiative, and helped train numerous student workers.

Matt has a Master’s of Science in Management (with a concentration in Technology Management,) and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, both from Bridgewater State.  He’s been an active presenter at NERCOMP Professional talks as well as been active on the Annual NERCOMP Conference committee.

Outside of IT , Matt keeps busy keeping up with his two boys ages 8 and 12 and the two year old Dog Fenway the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
