Bowdoin College seeks an Academic Technology Consultant. This individual works with faculty and students to enhance their teaching, creative work, and scholarship through technology. They identify, evaluate, and implement new approaches and solutions, train faculty and students on technology, and provide follow-up support. They support media creation and consumption in the joint Library and IT Media Commons and instructional technology in coordination with the Library and the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching.

• Bachelor’s degree. • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills. • Demonstrated excellence in customer service. • Demonstrated excellence in consulting and solving ambiguous, and often complex, problems creatively. • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a sometimes fast-paced environment. • Ability to work independently with limited supervision. • Ability to work and collaborate with diverse groups and teams. • Ability to regularly and quickly learn material and new technologies to provide “third level” support including extensive research, individual training, and project-level solutions to faculty, students, and staff. • Working knowledge of software and hardware used in an academic setting • Extensive knowledge in at least one of the following academic technology areas: o Digital media production (Final Cut, Premiere, Photoshop, etc.) o Instructional and Universal Design o Web publishing and web platforms used in academic settings (Wordpress, Omeka, etc.) o Digital storytelling o User Interface and User Experience o Data Visualization o Technology Training o Virtual and Augmented Reality
Required • A minimum of 3 years of applied technical experience with macOS and Windows in a networked environment with a variety of academic software applications. • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on project teams. • Minimum of 1 year of providing technology support, training, and documentation. • Experience teaching groups and individuals. • Experience supporting academic technology software and hardware. Preferred • Experience working in higher education with faculty and students. • Experience supporting and working in a learning management system (Blackboard). • Experience writing/documenting for the web. • Experience teaching in higher education. • Experience with assistive technology and accessibility standards and practices.
