This position is responsible for supervising the day to day operations of the Application Services team including overseeing personnel actions as well as steering technology projects and initiatives. The Application Services Manager acts as Database and Systems Administrator for the College's Student Information System (Ellucian Banner), and related software solutions to ensure a high level of security, productivity and availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide supervision and leadership to all members of the ITS Application Services group.
Be an active and collaborative member of the ITS leadership team
Provide database administration functions to support administrative systems
Maintain logical and physical databases and review descriptions of changes to database design
Apply vendor related software upgrades and patches to the database management systems and application software, where database-specific expertise is required
Create and maintain production and test databases
Monitor and tune database performance
Determine impact of database changes on other ITS supported systems and identify required modifications to the databases and related systems.
Administer web and database servers as needed to support software systems
Build and foster a good working relationship between Application Services and end user offices and personnel.
Simplify the use of systems for end users and empower end users to streamline workflow and data retrieval from Banner. This will include writing packages, procedures and reports using PL/SQL and other tools that reflects good Object Oriented Programming (OOP) practices.
Ensure Application Services maintains a high level of redundancy and cross-training for supported systems and solutions
Provide technical advice and support to other staff members of Information Technology Services, and to the College as a whole
Provide expert analysis and recommendations in selecting appropriate software systems such as Banner, or third-party software to extend Banner
Provide database backup and recovery of databases
Provide for the integrity and security of the Banner and related systems
Provide updates, patching and enhancements to current software
Write programs as needed
Meet with other departments to discuss conversions
Engage in relevant professional development activities
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for IT
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems
At least five years progressively responsible experience providing software support and technical support to user departments (preferably in a higher education environment)
At least four years' experience administering server operating systems (preferably Linux)
At least four years' experience administering a relational database (preferably ORACLE)
Experience installing, maintaining and upgrading third party software that integrates with a relational database
Familiarity with cyber-security best practices in enterprise database management
Expert analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
Supervisory experience preferred
Demonstrated customer service orientation
Be available if needed on nights, weekend or holidays to respond to unexpected, mission-critical issues
