The Assistant Database Administrator works closely with the Database Administrator (DBA) to keep the College's Banner information system up to date and available. This can include installing upgrades to the software itself and the servers it runs on, monitoring backups, and maintaining third-party and in-house software solutions. Additionally, the Assistant Database Administrator works collaboratively with other IT professionals and provides leadership as to best practices in database and system design as well as end-user support alongside the DBA. Ongoing assessment and consideration of the security of these various systems is of utmost importance as well.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build, and maintain College developed systems to extend Banner and improve end-user experience
Develop, maintain and modify PL/SQL Packages, Functions, Procedures and Triggers while enhancing existing code
Provide end-user support for the use of Banner and design and implement reports as needed
Provide backup to the College's Database Administrator (DBA)
Assist DBA with maintaining and upgrading the College's Banner system (Oracle database and application servers)
Maintain and upgrade various third-party software and servers that integrate with the Banner system
Provide leadership on best practices for database and system design
Manage assigned projects, prioritize tasks and maintain lines of communication
Create functional design specifications based on user needs and work closely with users to understand and manage expectations
Test, deploy and support applications
Solve problems through the use of various debugging tools
Work with vendor technical support to resolve implementation, maintenance and other issues as necessary
Provide for the integrity and security of the Banner system
Engage in relevant professional development activities

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
Two years' experience utilizing a relational database (preferably ORACLE)
Two years' experience with Linux and/or Windows server administration
Expert analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Strong Oracle SQL and PL/SQL programming as evidenced by implementing and maintaining database solutions
A passion for education and a desire to apply recently learned knowledge to the workplace
Demonstrated customer service orientation
Foundational understanding of Normalization and ER data modeling
Experience with Ellucian Banner baseline and self-service products
Strong Unix/Linux Experience
Good Understanding of Object Oriented Programming practices
Automation development and functionality testing
Familiarity with web programming and design
Experience with document management systems preferred
