Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) has management responsibility for delivery of all information technology services for Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) with approximately 3,000 internal users and a global audience for its research and teaching. HKS seeks a CIO to work closely with the School’s senior leadership to develop a strategy that supports the School’s academic and administrative programs. The CIO serves as the HKS lead for University-wide IT initiatives and projects. This senior leader is a problem solver who can streamline processes, and collaborator who can work with partners across HKS and Harvard in a variety of disciplines. Duties and Responsibilities:

- Leads a 32-person, full-service information technology department to ensure the School's goals in teaching, learning, and research are achieved.
- Serves as a key advisor to HKS Leadership and is responsible for all technology planning and strategic initiatives.
- Works collaboratively with the HKS Educational Technology team on initiatives that impact academic technology, teaching, and learning.
- Establishes and maintains high level standards for operations and service delivery to faculty, students, staff, and fellows.
- Ensures the protection of the school’s IT assets and guarantees the integrity, security, and privacy of all information maintained.
- Responsible for engaging and developing current staff and bringing new talent to the team as needed. Creates a culture of respect, inclusion, and belonging.
- Provides the technology vision and planning process that will regularly evaluate existing technology, information systems, and staffing; research new solutions and technologies; coordinate on university-wide initiatives; and recommend changes.
- Develops and monitors the approved annual operating and capital budgets for information and technology systems.
- Collaborates effectively with the school’s centers and departments to develop and maintain policies and standards aimed at maximizing effectiveness and minimizing costs related to the acquisition, implementation and operation of HKS IT systems.
- Represents HKS and provides strategic guidance to Harvard University through CIO Council and other channels.

10+ years of experience leading a complex information technology service delivery organization; demonstrated experience in budget and staff management. Successful candidates will also have some combination of these skills: - Ability to effectively build and sustain consensus for action among key stakeholders with sometimes divergent points of view, leveraging effective relationships, technical expertise, and excellent communication skills. - Proven ability to lead complex and cross-organizational projects and effectively communicate, persuade, document and deliver architecture and technical design to a diverse community of stakeholders and audiences. - Consistently customer oriented, with rigorous attention to user experience and a penchant for innovation and problem solving. - Demonstrated commitment to promoting the professional development and success of IT employees. - Sophisticated understanding of how information is organized, accessed, and used to support the academic and research missions of the university. - Experience in higher education strongly preferred.

Bachelor's degree is required.
