UConn Division of Student Affairs is looking to hire a Data Analyst 1. Under the supervision of the Manager of the Development team, this position acquires data from primary and secondary sources, interprets data, and analyzes results using statistical techniques for the Division of Student Affairs. The incumbent may be tasked to manage projects and supervise other team members or student employees.

Duties and responsibilities include:
1. Writes basic scripts and procedures to assist with managing reporting systems
2. Carries out small, to moderately sized technical tasks with minimal assistance and writes summaries of technical project work
3. Supports senior technical personnel with installation, upgrade, and maintenance of reporting and analytics systems and databases
4. Create best-practice reports and dashboards based on data mining, analysis, and visualization
5. Collect and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, helping customers understand differences and uses for each
6. Assist stakeholders at all levels in understanding the data analysis steps and enable them to make informed decisions based on various facts and trends, prioritizing business, and information needs
7. Consults with departments and committees to draw out Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and assist in building weighted metric models to measure performance
8. Supports technical projects as part of a project team.
9. Evaluate internal systems for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies, developing and maintaining protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data

Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of technical experience developing practical and data-driven insights by examining available data using data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
- Knowledge and ability to perform various operations in a database, such as retrieving data, updating data, and deleting data using programming languages like SQL, Oracle, R, MATLAB, or Python
- Experience generating reports or dashboards using data visualization software like Tableau, Power BI, Excel, Qlik
- Technical writing experience in relevant areas including documentation, reports, and presentations
- Demonstrated ability in analytical reasoning and logical problem solving
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Good written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with database and model design and segmentation techniques
- Experience on a large end-to-end data collection and visualization project
- Understanding of machine learning, data mining and experience in algorithmic program development and coding
- Experience using statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets that could be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction
- Adept at using data processing platforms like Hadoop and Apache Spark
- Use of automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources
- Practical experience in statistical analysis using statistical packages including Excel, Google Sheets, SPSS, and SAS

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience; or an associate degree and four years of experience; or six years of related experience
