Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic self-starter with expertise in application architecture and programming interfaces to bring software design and systems operations together in support of the school community. This position requires broad proficiency with the command-line, automated testing and deployment, JavaScript and JSON, as well as coding for accessibility and responsive design. Responsibilities include presenting creative and proactive solutions to technical challenges faced by academic programs and the administration, coordinating development efforts across various technology stacks, and ensuring that all implementations are fully documented.

Minimum of three years proven success building multi-user software using MVC and modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Node.JS, AngularJS), Ajax, .NET, PHP, Ruby, and/or Python. A portfolio of web-based applications and interfaces demonstrating proficiency developing with APIs (SOAP and REST) and structured data (JSON, XML) is expected. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Additional qualifications include expertise with version control and issue tracking systems, a strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD principles and procedures, and knowledge of information security best practices. Experience administering databases in a high-availability environment (eg. SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL), familiarity with cloud computing architecture, Linux and Windows operating systems, and network protocols is expected. Candidates must have the ability to collaborate as part of a team, as well as be capable of working independently. Occasional night and weekend work required to ensure IT operations.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Science, or Data Science. ITIL certification and a background working in secondary or higher education preferred.

Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions.
