The Media Services Technician (Afternoon - Early Evening Shift) plays a diverse and intricate role in the operations of Media Services. The position involves high priority response to classroom support needs, which includes assisting faculty with operating media equipment, troubleshooting sound and video projection issues, and assisting with setting up additional instructional technologies as needed. The Media Services Technician resides in the Media Lab and provides support for faculty, staff, and students in the use of equipment, media production, event support, media lab support, and technical training and assistance to campus constituents. This position is responsible for setting up sound systems, video projection, and audio recording devices in support of lectures and a range of campus events. An increasingly important and complex aspect of this position is knowledge and experience with Extron configuration and utility software, along with a strong understanding of network infrastructure, including AV switchers. This individual is responsible for communicating with others to determine parameters of projects and manage projects to successful completion. In close collaboration with the Media Services team, this position schedules and performs routine maintenance on equipment, and participates in the installation, modernization, and continuous improvement of the audiovisual infrastructure across the Skidmore campus.

Technical knowledge of desktop hardware and software required.
Technical knowledge of AV hardware and software is desired.
Knowledge of, competency in, and familiarity with Extron or similar AV control systems is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Experience in providing excellent customer service.
Demonstrated initiative and flexibility.
Demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Experience with video editing and a variety of multimedia file formats.
Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously

An Associate’s Degree in IT or a related field from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.
