Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Development and Support the PeopleSoft Application DBA will serve as an application administrator and DBA for the New York Tech’s Oracle PeopleSoft infrastructure; manage security for PS and other enterprise systems; serve as a backup database and application administrator for the Oracle E-Business Suite of products. Provide direct, hands-on support for the installation, integration, testing, and maintenance of other select administrative systems, in-house applications and/or related databases. The position is located at the Long Island, NY (Old Westbury) campus.

Specific Responsibilities:

Work as a team member supporting the Oracle, SQL Server, PeopleSoft, WebLogic, Apache, Tomcat and other enterprise level databases, applications and technologies, on premise and in the cloud; ensure enterprise systems and applications are kept up to date; install upgrades and patches in a timely manner; execute cloning procedure in support of the instance management strategy; regularly monitor services for current and emerging application issues, release dependencies and security patches.
Work with IT business analysts on the timing, testing, implementation, and documentation of upgrades and/or patches across test, development, staging, and production environments; escalate appropriate issues to vendor support on behalf of IT business analysts or end users.
Grant, monitor and report on access to Oracle applications, including PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, and other select enterprise systems, including creating, modifying, and granting/removing roles/classes as well as user accounts in accordance with the New York Tech’s policies.
Work collaboratively with IT colleagues and to evaluate the impact of available upgrades, patches, and/or new system requests on customized or home-grown forms, jobs, processes or 3rd party systems (peripheral or add-on); work with relevant staff to plan for required adjustments.
Provide technical assistance, documentation, and support to facilitate application development and successful integration of various systems, solutions, and services.
Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies/procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the New York Tech’s administrative systems and related databases; coordinate and maintain documentation and participate in exercises required to support annual IT security audit, disaster recovery, and business continuity; participate in annual audit as it relates to IT controls and change management procedures.
Partner with systems and network administrators and other DBAs/application administrators to actively monitor and improve system performance; troubleshoot/solve database issues encountered by new and existing applications.
Assist management in the planning, investigation, budgeting, development and implementation of new technologies and services to meet changing needs of the academic community.
Assist manager with the analysis, design, development, implementation, testing and maintenance of enterprise-level database standards and best practices for backup/recovery/business continuity.
Stay abreast of evolving technology trends and best practices in administrative information systems; clearly communicate opportunities and/or threats to supervisor and senior IT management.
Other duties as needed by the department and defined by the supervisor.

BS in information management, computer science or related discipline. Comparable success and work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the implementation of computer information systems for business applications is required; an extensive technical/programming background as an Oracle DBA is preferred.
Strong technical and functional knowledge of Oracle’s PeopleSoft products, including security, is strongly desired; knowledge of other complex administrative applications in support of various university marketing, administrative and business procedures also preferred.
Strong technical programming skills (including SQL, PL/SQL, and shell scripting) required; experience with ETL processes, Oracle WebLogic and knowledge of Oracle database utilities is required; additional experience with Oracle development tools preferred; willingness to learn other leading technologies as needed is required.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team or leading a project; ability to set priorities and work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects; ability to communicate progress/problems to appropriate personnel effectively.
Excellent customer service skills and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information required.
Strong verbal and written communications and customer service skills; the ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of computer literacy; the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all contact levels of the University.
Demonstrated passion for problem solving; strong work ethos; excellent time and project management experience with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
