Responsible for the engineering, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise servers and storage, network services, application architecture, communication systems, security infrastructure and endpoint technologies. The Senior Director will respond with agility to changing requirements and successfully manage a team of IT professionals that include highly technical system administrators and engineers.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the hands-on development and day-to-day management, accessibility, reliability and security of end-to-end integrated systems to include:  ITS servers/storage, application architecture, network/communication systems, security infrastructure and endpoint technologies; monitor system configurations to ensure accessibility, reliability and data integrity.
Provide technical leadership, expertise, and consulting across the organization; oversee IT problem management and resolution as well as infrastructure, cloud and shared services implementations.
Develop and implement a plan for logical and technical IT infrastructure to meet NYIT’s goals by recommending technologies and services that will increase the performance, reliability, agility, and/or cost effectiveness of IT-enabled services.
Develop, implement, and enforce policies and standards relating to the operation and performance of the University's IT systems and services for hosting, cloud, networking, collaboration, endpoint computing, security, and mobility (including remote access).
Monitor system configurations to ensure reliability and data integrity; establish and maintain security, backup and disaster recovery procedures/policy; test backup and recovery plans.
Assist VP for Information Technology and senior IT management team in the planning, investigation, budgeting, development and implementation of new technologies and services to meet changing needs of the community; assist with the development and implementation of divisional goals and objectives; identify new areas of technical opportunities and/or risks; develop cost-benefit analyses in support of recommended initiatives.
Coordinate and collaborate on enterprise-level purchase decisions; maintain accurate records of ITS licenses and contracts including hardware and software maintenance agreements; maintain appropriate vendor relations.
Oversee all campus data center, network and telecommunication infrastructure upgrades and expansions as well as all reports and documentation related to network, systems, security and endpoint support operations.
Oversee IT system and network security operations; institute necessary procedures to maintain a secure and accessible IT environment.
Oversee the execution of annual external audits, penetration testing and application testing engagements; participate in internal IT audits as needed.
Supervise system, security, networking, telecommunications and endpoint solutions staff; provide technical guidance and direction; manage staff development, training and performance.
Foster a collaborative environment with team members internal to ITS as well as members of the entire NYIT community.
Serve on various NYIT committees and working groups as appropriate.
Other duties as needed and defined by the supervisor.

Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience that includes both management and hands-on technology experience with enterprise-level systems and server hardware, operating systems, IDM, cloud-based services, and network/telecom infrastructure support; experience providing IT support in an academic environment preferred.  Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible IT experience and leadership roles developing and executing IT infrastructure strategy/roadmaps and leading a team of highly technical and responsive support professionals. Broad and deep hands-on knowledge in the design, implementation and support of IT-related infrastructure plans for complex organizations including, but not limited to: enterprise-level server and storage technology, system applications, network/telecommunications architecture, data center operations, and disaster/recovery procedures is required.  Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Active Directory required. Knowledge of several UNIX variants and parallel computing is desired. Proficient in the use of all Microsoft operating systems and Windows Server System products - including Active Directory, Exchange, and Office365 - is required; knowledge of several UNIX variants, network architectures, academic software applications, and parallel computing is desired. Strong analytical, planning, project management and problem solving abilities; versatility and aptitude for learning new technical skills quickly. Demonstrated passion for problem solving; excellent project and portfolio management experience with the proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and activities within time, budget and technical constraints.  Ability to establish collaborative working relationships within IT and across campus departments at all levels of the University; the ability to see how various parts interact with the whole (big picture thinking) as well as engage with projects at the micro level when necessary. Must possess a high degree of proficiency and integrity relative to information security as well as broad knowledge of applicable data security/privacy practices and laws. Exceptional verbal and written communications and consultative customer service skills.  This includes but is not limited to: the ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of technical fluency – including the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand; the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all contact levels of the University; the ability to communicate progress/challenges to appropriate personnel effectively. Team player with excellent consulting skills and a fun, but professional presence required. Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis.
