Tufts Technology Services (TTS) is a university-wide service organization dedicated to the strategic planning, implementation, and support of technology products and services that anticipate and meet the academic, research, clinical and business needs of the Tufts community. TTS works in partnership with schools, business units, and other academic support organizations to provide campus-wide IT services in the areas of academic and research technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, web services, classroom and computer lab technology support, and user support, training and outreach.

The Senior Educational Technology Specialist will work as part of a team to consult, develop, deliver and support technology to improve teaching and learning at Tufts University. The primary focus of this position is to provide consulting directly to faculty to help them articulate pedagogic challenges and to address those challenges through the implementation of appropriate instructional design and technology solutions. As a senior-level educational technologist, this position works on complex instructional design challenges and high-profile projects, and is responsible for leading others both within and external to ETS on specific projects. Responsibilities also include strategic outreach and faculty engagement efforts, including the development and implementation of workshops, coordination and design of events, and collaborations on documentation and other online materials. S/he contributes to support for existing educational technology tools, services, and initiatives, and assesses new technologies and services. Along with colleagues in ETS, the Senior Educational Technology Specialist participates actively in a range of TTS programs, projects, services, and duties as assigned, and collaborates with other units in support of teaching and learning with technology at Tufts.

Basic Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree 5 years of related experience supporting faculty in the design, development, and implementation of instructional technology tools and resources across a continuum of face to face, hybrid, and online courses. Experience supporting faculty in the use of one or more Learning Management Systems. Ability to analyze client requirements, map those requirements to existing tools & services, and to deliver well-designed and effective solutions for clients. A strong understanding of current web standards & tools and the interest in and ability to quickly learn new technical skills is essential. Multimedia skills, such as experience with Camtasia, screen recording and lecture capture tools, and basic video editing skills. Strong track-record of exemplifying customer service excellence and exceptional communication skills, including presentation skills and written communication skills, as well as superior collaboration skills are required. Ability to communicate skillfully with and translate between technical and non-technical faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated abilities in analysis, problem-solving, and client support. Strong knowledge of best practices in higher education teaching, learning, and assessment and associated technologies and integrating this information into faculty development and consultation work with university faculty. Project management skills, including demonstrated competency in both guiding and contributing expertise to interdisciplinary teams. Special Work Schedule Requirements: Occasional evening or weekend work, as well as the ability to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation for major incident support activities. Ability and transportation to travel to Tufts three campuses.
A Masters’ degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Education or other related field. Teaching experience Experience working in higher education, especially within health sciences and medical education contexts. Substantial knowledge of social media in education, mobile computing, e-portfolios, classroom response systems, blended and distance learning, and/or learning outcomes and assessment experience.
