The solutions analyst plays a critical role in providing Colby students, faculty, and staff with technology solutions and support. This position assesses business needs and helps to deliver software solutions as a member of an experienced team of technology professionals. In partnership with College stakeholders and in collaboration with ITS colleagues, the solutions analyst translates business needs into software solutions. These solutions may take the form of new applications and integrations, changes to existing solutions, or data visualizations and reports, as examples. This role has significant responsibility at the enterprise level in the areas of system implementation, support and maintenance, as well as analytics and reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assess business needs in a variety of higher education contexts, working closely with teams of College stakeholders, ITS staff, and vendor partners to translate those needs into technology solutions

Design solutions which improve or facilitate processes in close collaboration with functional owners

Document new solutions thoroughly from a technical and user perspective

Deliver excellent customer service in support and solution building and design

Foster a sense of partnership between Colby ITS and the campus community through clear, honest, and genuine communication

Thoroughly research the solution space and suggest options which fulfill needs while adhering to ITS strategy for new software and application solutions

Working as part of a team, architect and build solutions with an eye toward ease of use and maintenance, with consideration of integration and lifecycle needs

Assist with the design and implementation of a reporting strategy, including assessing reporting and data needs and building metadata models and reports

Collaborate with ITS colleagues to assess applications and systems for improvements; identify and prioritize those areas for improvement; and work as part of a team to deliver, test, and implement improvements

Troubleshoot issues and respond to incidents on production systems

Document resolution path and technical details of resolutions for support details

Apply appropriately thorough and contemporary investigative and technical methods to identify and resolve issues

Provide exceptional 2nd- and 3rd-tier support to internal customers and act as intermediary for support and implementation involving third party vendors and external stakeholders

Serve as liaison between ITS and College stakeholders; act as a trusted advisor in all interactions in order to foster continued partnerships with staff across the College

Application scripting as necessary

Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

3-5 years’ experience with some combination of the following: Configuring, customizing, or maintaining some aspect of an enterprise software system at the application level; for example, building workflow within an application or building custom functionality through application-level scripting Report writing or dashboard design in a tool such as PowerBI, Microsoft SSRS, Cognos or Tableau Working with high-level programming or scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Perl Querying data with SQL and working knowledge of relational databases System or application administration at the enterprise level Experience in translating business needs into technical solutions Familiarity with Linux/Unix is a plus Experience in higher education, especially in a technology role, is a plus Knowledge of contemporary software development practices, including source control, development lifecycles and testing Excellent troubleshooting practices and the determination to solve complex problems Working knowledge of contemporary IT support fundamentals, including change control, issue and incident workflow, and issue tracking Proven project management skills Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community Collaborative, constructive, and positive approach to work Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong relationship skills Attention to detail in both completion of work and documenting work products Effective time management practices, applied in a fast-paced environment KEY RELATIONSHIPS: This position has frequent and direct contact with ITS peers and colleagues, administrative and academic personnel, and third parties such as vendor and consulting contacts. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
