Position Focus:

In this role, you will be a Public Safety IT Team member. The team is responsible for managing several critical services and systems that supporting Yales' Public Safety and include the Yale Police Department, Yale Security and Yale Emergency Management.

The role of the Systems Engineer will oversee the designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting of key Public Safety systems that impact the entire Yale community. Such systems include Video management and its interrelated systems and technology such as Access Control, Intrusion systems, Mass Notification systems, dispatch, and reporting systems. This role is responsible for assessing systems, determining problems, providing solutions to issues that arise, designing systems, documenting systems, upgrading systems, maintaining systems, and continual improvements throughout the life cycle.

Other primary responsibilities include:
Collaborating with various clients, vendors, management, and other information technology (IT) staff during the creation and maintenance of a system. Working closely with networking teams including Endpoint Engineering, server administration, Information Security and networking engineering. Creating control features to ensure systems meet Yale's Policy and security standards. Engaging with clients to ensure systems meet requirements and are operating efficiently.
Developing standards and best practices for systems. Ensuring systems are operating at maximum efficiency throughout the life cycle.

Essential Duties:

1. Provides overall leadership role in multiple and complex areas of computing. Provides technical leadership to assist with long range vision in the area of systems design and architecture. Plans, develops and directs the design of major, complex systems. 2. Services as a technical advisor to computing professionals and provides technical leadership. 3. Operates as a key contributor to departmental planning and long range technical development. 4. Ensures that system design strategies meet the current and future business needs. 5. Guides the development of broad, unprecedented computing systems and conducts critical developmental studies. 6. Creates, conceives, and plans the development of new data sources, criteria and systems standards. 7. Plans and directs the design of major, complex systems. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

At least six years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven experience with networking protocols, server administration, and application support.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability to communicate solutions to complex problems and relay important information both verbal and written to team members.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to feedback is an essential aspect of this position.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven experience in various core technologies, including Windows, server architecture, networking, and end-point technologies.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Must exhibit a functional understanding of information security practices and demonstrate the ability to implement solutions across multiple firewalled environments.
