The Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversite for complex, enterprise-wide services at the Center for Computational Innovations, including the design, development, implementation and maintenance of high performance computation systems, storage, and network. In addition, the Systems Engineer leads complex projects that often include IT staff from different departments and portfolios; works closely with other technical and IT leadership staff providing high-level guidance, mentoring and training which includes the development of other technical employees.

Strong knowledge of Linux server systems and experience performing advanced systems administration tasks and functions.
Strong knowledge of, and operational experience with operating system internals, including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device drivers, file systems, etc.
Advanced troubleshooting ability.
Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking
In-depth technical knowledge of common operating server operating systems and technologies including relevant versions of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization, networking, storage area networks.
Strong knowledge of HPC cluster systems and experience performing advanced systems administration tasks and functions.
Basic understanding of InfiniBand and 100GB ethernet networking
Basic understanding of software development, compilers and debugging
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet goals and deadlines.
Ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot complex problems.
Ability to diagnose hardware and software problems.
Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with colleagues and users in a diverse environment.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Experience with development/design and maintenance of enterprise-wide systems and services.
Experience working with SLURM or other batch schedulers
Experience with High Performance Computing systems, parallel programming (MPI) and GPU computing Experience with parallel file systems such as GPFS or Lustre
Experience in Higher Education is preferred, though not required

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and seven (7) years relevant professional work experience required.
Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
