Company Description
The Associate Director, Research Computing provides leadership and vision for the development, support and maintenance of campus research computing and cloud services, including high performance and quantum computing. This also includes customer support for system enhancements and day-to-day operations for users, system integration, and development/rollout of technical solutions.
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to manage both information systems special projects and ongoing operations
• Ability to plan and manage resources and supervise staff
• Ability to manage and direct problem resolution processes and build consensus among stakeholders to
resolve conflicting interests or needs
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Planning, organizing and effective time management skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems
Preferred Experience:
• Professional experience with progressive responsibility in the areas of research computing and cloud services
• Previous experience in higher education environment
• Experience with deployment and management of HPC systems including CPU, GPU, storage, file systems, networking, virtualization, job schedulers (SLURM) and scientific applications
• Experience with InfiniBand and ethernet networks
• Understanding of data security and compliance standards, such as NIST 800-171/53
Preferred Education:
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in computer science, engineering
• Five (5) or more years of experience in research computing and system administration
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information technology or related field
• Minimum five (5) years of professional experience with progressive responsibility in information technology
field, including a minimum of two (2) years in a demonstrated leadership capacity managing technical staff
