Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) seeks a strategic and collaborative Director of Information Technology to provide vision, leadership, and oversight of the school’s technology systems and services. Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations/COO, this role is responsible for advancing NMH’s mission through innovative, secure, and reliable technology solutions that support both academic and administrative functions. The Director will lead and develop a team of eight IT professionals, manage the IT budget, and drive strategic initiatives that strengthen infrastructure, data security, and the overall user experience across campus.

A Day in the Life
A significant portion of time is spent partnering with school leadership, faculty, and staff to align technology initiatives with institutional priorities and support key academic and administrative outcomes. The Director develops and executes long-term technology plans, translating strategic goals into actionable projects and communicating progress clearly to stakeholders.

The Director oversees IT operations, including budgeting, project prioritization, and staff management, while ensuring systems, networks, and applications are reliable, scalable, and responsive to user needs. They guide the selection and implementation of technology solutions, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

This role also leads information security and data privacy efforts by establishing policies, auditing system use, and ensuring compliance with institutional standards while balancing security and usability. The Director sets customer service expectations and promotes clear, effective communication across the IT function.

They stay current with emerging technologies and trends to identify opportunities that enhance teaching, learning, and administrative effectiveness, bringing forward ideas aligned with NMH’s strategic priorities. Candidates should be committed to positively impacting adolescents and demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community and reflects a clear understanding of anti-bias education.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Educational Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Minimum of 7 years of experience in technology management, preferably in an educational environment with increasing levels of responsibility

Demonstrated ability to develop and lead strategic initiatives aligned with organizational mission and values

Strong supervisory and staff development experience, including managing and developing a multi-person technical team

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across a diverse community

Experience managing budgets and operating within financial guidelines

Extensive familiarity with Macintosh and Windows operating systems, Google platforms, and administrative applications

Proven ability to meet the needs of a wide range of users while maintaining high service standards

Familiarity with Slate and Blackbaud preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Educational Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
