Event Overview
Digital equity in higher education is often assumed rather than examined. While many students and faculty have access to technology and demonstrate increasing digital fluency, inequities still surface through course design, technology choices, institutional policies, and evolving expectations—particularly as AI becomes more embedded in teaching and learning.
This session invites faculty and academic staff to develop a shared, practical understanding of digital equity in a higher-education context. Rather than focusing on specific tools, the webinar emphasizes learning, access, and inclusion, and explores how everyday decisions can unintentionally create barriers for students. Participants will leave with actionable, role-appropriate strategies to support more equitable participation and success.
Session Outcomes:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define digital equity in higher education, including its connections to course design, technology use, institutional policies, and emerging uses of AI in teaching and learning
- Identify common points where digital inequities arise, even in environments with widespread access to devices and platforms
- Recognize how assumptions about access, skills, and availability can impact student learning and engagement
- Commit to one or more practical actions within their professional role to reduce digital barriers and support equitable learning experiences
