Event Overview

More and more, technical professionals in higher ed are being asked to speak about projects they have completed, or are planning, for their schools. But these are not always formal presentations—often, they are impromptu responses to questions from clients, supervisors, and colleagues. Like when your boss asks you to explain something technically complicated at a meeting, but hasn't warned you beforehand! Or you need to justify a decision (new LMS? software? staffing changes?) in two minutes—especially to a non-technical audience. This workshop will help participants feel more comfortable responding in a clear, concise manner when they are put on the spot. In the morning, a professional trainer will give advice on how to craft a clear, concise response, and reduce anxiety in these situations. The afternoon will be devoted to practice. Each participant will also be videotaped responding to a sample question, and have the opportunity to get feedback from other participants.
