Event Overview
Are you an instructor who uses online discussion as part of your curriculum to meet pedagogical needs? Do you ever evaluate the data from these discussions to help shape how you engage with your students? Not sure how to do that? No problem, we can share an approach.
Each instructor approach and focus for online discussion may be different – while some instructors like to promote discussion interactions among students by encouraging or specifically requiring students to read and comment on peers’ threads; others tend to use online discussion as a means to have students share their written reflections, and provide feedback to individual students’ work, which is intentionally designed to be accessible to everyone in the class.
Join us for this webinar, to learn an agile approach of harnessing activity data to inform student participation in online discussions. We will demonstrate how discussion analytics can produce the visual results that are geared to address a particular pedagogical concern; as well as, share tailored info diagrams to effectively help faculty make data-informed interventions and engage students in discussion activities.
Session Outcomes:
Participants will:
- Understand how effectively using data visualizations corresponds to discussion activities.
- Be able to interpret the network diagrams that represent discussion interactions.
- Understand the basics of data manipulation that are most commonly applied in analytics.
