Event Overview
Higher Education networks are some of the most diverse and complex environments to secure. Often, different parts of the campus are maintained and owned by different technical staff groups. There is a consistent balance between security and usability that must be struck. Too-secure and critical actions, such as research or deadlines for submitting grades, may be negatively affected. not secure enough, and you risk exposing that research or student data, as well as potential regulatory violations. We know that Higher Education environments are target-rich for bad actors, including data ranging from employee PII and payments to student identification data to PCI networks, and even state-sponsored attacks targeting research data.
In this talk, we will start by discussing what it takes to build an effective vulnerability management program in the Higher Education space. From there, we will look at how Rapid7 has evolved from simple vulnerability scanning to full, vendor-agnostic exposure management. We’ll cover a few features of our Exposure Management Platform and show how you can move from being reactive to proactive. We’ll cover how to look for security and coverage gaps, all while aligning to the SLAs and security goals your organization has.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about some of the current and evolving threats that are targeting higher education institutes specifically and what you can do to ensure your environments aren’t next.
- Understand the foundation that builds a strong vulnerability and exposure management strategy for your organization through discussions on relationship building and the use of policy and procedures.
- Demonstrate how these goals can be achieved within the Rapid7 Exposure Command Platform to help secure and protect the environments you are responsible for.
