Event Overview

Colleges moving toward blended learning need strategies to ensure faculty are capable of confidently delivering courses in new formats. The Faculty Center at Curry College developed a Faculty Readiness Process to certify faculty as “Blackboard proficient” and develop faculty familiarity with blended learning best practices. To receive a proficiency certificate, faculty take an online teaching self-assessment, Blackboard tutorials, and a Blackboard assessment, followed by a blended learning workshop with our instructional designer. This facilitated the transition of four graduate programs to hybrid during AY 2014-2015, and laid the foundation for growth in hybrid teaching. Tools created as part of this process were integral to the success of the project and may be transferrable to other institutions. These include a seat time equivalency chart, a blended learning best practices document, a handbook, and a rubric to assess blended course elements.

Learning Objectives/Takeaways:
 - Learn how to create a Faculty Readiness Online Course
 - Create an implementation plan for Faculty preparing to teach hybrid or online course
 - Develop a best practices strategy for teaching in the online environment
