Event Overview
What will higher education look like in ten or twenty years? How will technological developments reshape colleges and universities? This workshop answers these questions through a multidimensional approach. We begin with a short introduction to futuring, including trend analysis, the Delphi method (exemplified by the Horizon Report project), scenarios, and environmental scanning. Next, experts in several different domains present the best forecasts of how their fields are evolving. Domains will include multimedia, learning spaces, libraries, publishing, and copyright. After these presentations skilled facilitators then help participants explore how best to apply this knowledge to their own institutions.
Session Outcomes:
• Awareness of our best understanding of the future of several domains
• Practical steps for campus application
• Understanding of influence of broad changes in technology, law, and society on our system of higher education
