Event Overview
"You may not control the decision—but you can often influence what happens next."

In higher education, we often see problems—and even potential solutions—without having the authority, resources, or sponsorship to fully address them. This interactive workshop explores practical ways to make progress anyway. Through real-world examples and peer problem-solving, participants will explore strategies for building influence and alliances, testing ideas, gathering evidence, finding workable alternatives, and engaging decision-makers. Just as importantly, we’ll examine when persistence or a different approach can move an issue forward—and when a challenge truly requires greater authority, resources, sponsorship, or structural change.

Session Outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 - Assess a workplace challenge by identifying what they can control, what they can influence, and what requires authority, resources, sponsorship, or structural change.
 - Choose practical strategies—including relationship-building, collaboration, experimentation, evidence-gathering, and escalation—to move a problem or idea forward.
 - Apply a structured problem-solving approach to a real workplace challenge and leave with a realistic next step.
