Event Overview

Students learn best through experience and by playing an active role in their education. As an educator, it is critical that you provide projects and opportunities for them to innovate in the public areas of interest.

Join us for this "Innovation Task Force workshop" shining a light on projects that feature student innovation and involvement in the design, creation, and implementation in the public sphere; specifically, those that engage students in service of their local communities with a focus on innovative technology and resources.

Through showcasing projects in early education, environmental science, and technology & innovation fields, we will use small group breakouts to involve participants in developing their own student-public project roadmaps.

We will explore the following questions:
What is the impact on students?
Who needs to be involved in these projects (internally and externally)?
What are the important factors to consider in planning these projects?
What resources are necessary?
How do I get started?
What funding sources exist (internally and externally)?
What about student privacy?

Audience: Faculty, instructional technologists, instructional designers, and anyone involved in faculty and curriculum development.

Learning Outcomes
- Discuss best practices in the creation of student-curated artifacts and the benefit(s) of making them public-facing
- Explore scaffolding strategies to build upon student knowledge including the use of OER resources
- Explore methods of incorporating student choice within project work
- Discuss community involvement and meaningful partnerships
