Event Overview
Join us for an in depth investigation of concept maps for the purpose of making “thinking” visible among individuals and teams. Given the variety of participants (e.g., instructional technologist and designers, librarians, faculty, etc.), we will explore how concept maps can be used in project development and planning. Through hands-on activities you will identify the key characteristics of successful concept maps as you explore the techniques and applications of this visual tool. We will discuss how we can apply what we learned to a classroom setting to visualize student “thinking.” Also, explore other visual tools (e.g., mind maps, idea trees, flow charts) for comparison.
Participants are required to bring a laptop to participate in the hands-on activities.
Session Outcomes:
- Identify the key characteristics of successful concept maps and techniques for introducing and developing concept maps among individuals and teams.
- Explore the administrative (e.g., project planning) and educational (e.g., formative and summative assessments) applications of concept maps.
- Learn how to use visual tools to make “thinking” visible among individuals and teams.
