Project Management in Higher Ed: Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them!
Speaker: S. Terry Ballantyne
Terry Ballantyne is Director of Enterprise Solutions at Wellesley College. As a member of the senior leadership team in Library and Technology Services (LTS), Terry is responsible for the development, maintenance and integration of most enterprise applications that support the College's academic programs, administrative operations and student residential life. She leads or oversees management of major institutional and divisional/departmental technology projects (e.g., identity management, portals, imaging, Business Intelligence, etc.) and allocates resources to meet institutional technology priorities. Terry represents the Library and Technology Services Team on the College's Project Prioritization Advisory Committee. She also represents Wellesley at national conferences and consortia, was the founder of the New England Technical Conference and has facilitated, organized and presented to technical groups at Nercomp, Sungard Summit and the New England Banner User Group. Terry holds a Master of Science in Management Degree from Lesley University and a Bachelor of Education Degree from McGill University and is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Boston University.
Speaker: Donna Volpe Strouse
Donna Volpe Strouse is the Director of Planning & Administration for Library & Technology Services (LTS) at Wellesley College. Donna is responsible for planning and leading major departmental initiatives aligned with the college's mission and strategic goals, including implementation of a project portfolio management tool and related policies. Donna is responsible for developing policies for the deployment and use of information technologies and resources. She leads the department's operational and capital budget planning process and heads the LTS central administrative group, who are responsible for purchasing, budgeting and building management. She serves as chief advisor to the CIO on budgeting, personnel, project management and policy development matters. She also leads the College's Data and Network Security Team, supports other departments on data security issues, and is responsible for data security education for the College community. She leads the business continuity team for LTS, including developing emergency response and recovery procedures related to essential LTS services and resources. Donna holds a Doctor of Psychology degree and Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Boston College. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Massachusetts, and is also a certified Myers-Briggs instructor.
Speaker: Susan Zaslaw
Susan Zaslaw is an Associate Director and a Senior Project Manager in the Computing Services division at Dartmouth College, which is located in Hanover, New Hampshire. She obtained her PMP certification in 2011 and has been a practicing project manager at Dartmouth for ten years. She received her BA degree from Norwich University in Vermont. Ms. Zaslaw specializes in enterprise IT projects and has managed several large-scale initiatives at Dartmouth such as a campus-wide email system implementation and a replacement of the institutional data warehouse. She co-presented a session at the 2013 annual NERCOMP conference entitled “Project Management Maturity: Where Does Your Institution Fall?” Before becoming a project manager, Ms. Zaslaw managed a team of business analysts in Dartmouth’s Administrative Computing department. Prior to Dartmouth, she worked in the banking industry for twelve years, in the San Diego area where she grew up. Ms. Zaslaw now lives with her husband and two youngest children in Hanover, New Hampshire, where she enjoys gardening, cooking and a variety of outdoor activities.
