Event Overview|:
This session aims to share perspectives along the journey of curating and creating in-house OER materials. We bring unique backgrounds as instructors, instructional designers, subject matter experts, and administrators to share the ins and outs of OER development.
While we welcome any audience level, our target audience includes faculty, instructional designers, instructional technologists, librarians, and administrators that are familiar with OER and are eager to take their knowledge to the next level. Perhaps you’ve integrated OER in 1-2 courses and are ready to take a bigger leap into providing low-cost solutions to your student population. You may be very familiar with the search engines, licensing structures, and various platforms offering OER but are craving more knowledge on how to fully eliminate a textbook or how to tailor OER on the web to meet the specific needs of your classroom. You may have ideas for materials but are struggling with the alignment and purposeful connection to the course’s learning outcomes. You may have innovative OER ideas but want to customize the materials to meet your student population. You may have developed a robust repository of OER content through your own research, and maybe you are thinking about how you can contribute back to the OER community by developing your own OER resource. Regardless of your experience level, this session will provide you with a customizable plan for designing a project team and timeline to meet your institution’s OER needs.
Session Outcomes:
After attending our session, participants will be able to:
- Define platforms for housing platform-agnostic content
- Design a project team inclusive of stakeholders appropriate to their institution
- Design a timeline for creating an in-house OER textbook
- Establish a workflow for project management across a full book curation process
- Align learning outcomes and course competencies to OER content
- Report cost savings as a result of implementing OER
- Describe OER training and development initiatives provided to support subject matter experts, faculty and instructional designers
