What role would you like to play in organizing this workshop? I’d like to learn more about this topic but would not like to organize it.
Intended Audience: Sys Admins; Enterprise Admins
Proposal:
Identity and access management are complicated topics. To the uneducated eye,, the process is fairly simple; users enter their credentials on a login form. That information is then sent to the authentication server where the information is compared with all the user credentials on file. When a match is found, the system will grant them access to their accounts. If a match isn’t found, users will be prompted to re-enter their credentials and try again.
Underneath this web is an ecosystem of systems and protocols, all with an end goal of allowing the right users to access the right things at the right time. Setting up those systems and protocols is complicated. This workshop aims to expose current and future sys admins and other techology staff to what those protocols are, how they operate and how to set them up.
Learning Objectives:
-Learn the difference between authentication and access and how they work together
-Learn more about the various federations and protocols including (but not limited to) SAML2, Azure AD, ADFS, LDAP, Shibboleth and OKTA
-Learn how single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and other systems work
-Learn about attributes in SAML2 and how to set them up with various common higher ed external organizations and SaaS applications such as (but not limited to) LinkedIn Learning, LMS, Slate, Handshake and more.
Event Type: Online workshop - two 1.5 hour sessions (3 hours)
Track: Systems & Solutions
