Manages the operational activities and overall vision of the University-wide network, telecommunications, data center and enterprise infrastructure systems. Activities include the administration, design, installation, configuration, maintenance, and utilization of network/infrastructure as well as leadership of network, server and telecommunications infrastructure support staff. Under the general direction of the CTO, set the vision and lead initiatives on innovative technology, virtualization, identity management and disaster recovery/business continuity.
Must demonstrate a working knowledge of multi-platform server solutions and physical and logical network infrastructure; should have a mentoring management style; must be a motivated self-starter with excellent customer service demeanor; must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures appropriate for a technical support field; must possess a wide degree of creativity and willingness to provide input into the major decisions and direction of the department and projects across the University. Familiarity with higher education ERP systems is strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manages the operational activities and overall vision of the University-wide network, telecommunications, data center and enterprise infrastructure systems, including design, installation, configuration, maintenance, and security. Analyzes infrastructure functions and evaluates the services provided; develops plan of action and recommendations; focuses on innovation and efficiencies; identifies milestones and issues to be addressed, and generates reports as required. Plans, develops, and designs network, telecommunications, data center and enterprise infrastructure systems management and maintenance projects, including policies and procedures, operational improvements, backup and archival files, and evaluates new technology integration. Provides oversight for institution-wide infrastructure components; trouble-shoots network to diagnose system problems; identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs problems; installs and configures software upgrades, file sharing, and domain security protocols. In collaboration with the CTO, develop and execute the cloud infrastructure strategy, aligning it with the University’s overall campus-wide objectives and technological roadmap. Lead the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure components, including virtual private clouds (VPCs), virtual machine instances, storage, database services, networking and security. Participates in the growth and development of the department by attending department staff meetings, communicating effectively with CTO concerning pertinent departmental and University matters, and promoting an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community. Customer service is critical. Monitors utilization trends, manages network performance, and assures maximum uptime; performs ongoing analysis, capacity planning, and technical tuning of the network systems to improve performance. Supervises and provides technical leadership and guidance to technical staff; ensures compliance with policies and regulations, and that all issues are addressed and resolved in a timely fashion. Will advise on technologies for new construction/renovations of existing buildings on campus; work collaboratively with Facilities and vendors on projects.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical field. Formal degree may be waived with equivalent related experience and/or certifications.
