Reporting to the Director of Academic Technology, and working in close collaboration with Instructional Media Services (IMS) and Events and Scheduling, the Manager of Events and Support Services oversees support for special events, which may occur in-person, virtually, or hybrid, on the Wesleyan campus. Special events at Wesleyan include several day events like Homecoming and Reunion & Commencement, large conferences and symposia, and talks and lectures.

Student employment can be an integral part of their educational experience. The Manager of Events and Support Services is responsible for the management of IMS student staff, which range from 25-35 a year, who provide classroom and special event support. Our student employment offers students opportunities for progressive skills development and advancement to managerial positions, and the Manager plays a pivotal role in their development.

The Manager of Events and Support Services is also responsible for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate special event support, including Events and Conferences.

Finally, the Manager must be available to work on short notice, and evening and weekend hours will be required.

Core Responsibilities include:

Coordinating, billing, and supporting all aspects of audio-visual support for special events on Wesleyan campus, and the maintenance of event spaces and equipment.
Ensuring that a professional staff member is present and supports all VIP/Presidential special events.
Overseeing the hiring, training, supervision, and mentorship of IMS student staff. This includes hiring and on-boarding of student staff, training student staff on classroom support and special event support, and overall management of IMS student employees.
Providing assistance to IMS professional staff assigned to classroom support, supporting end-users of classrooms and meeting spaces.
Working with ITS leadership to collect and analyze data, including using ServiceNow and EMS, to support data-driven decisions.
Other duties as assigned.

This position is an on-campus position located in Middletown, CT

Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify.

Bachelor’s degree and at least two years’ experience in AV systems support or a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Expertise designing and supporting complex AV systems.

Excellent communication and customer service skills, the ability to problem-solve quickly and independently, and a flexible and can-do attitude.

Ability to communicate technical issues to non-specialists.

Proven ability to manage workers.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Proficiency with current Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems.

Basic proficiency supporting IT networking.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds

A professional work ethic and a willingness to maintain and increase applicable knowledge and skills.

Bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in higher education information technology support.
Experience supervising student staff.
