Summary:

Phillips Academy seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer for a temporary appointment during the fall and winter athletic seasons which are typically Late August – Early March. This position would report to the Director of Athletic Training and Director of Athletics.

This role supports the certified/licensed athletic training team in providing comprehensive sports healthcare to all Academy students. Responsibilities include injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, and sideline injury care during practices and games.

The position typically follows a Monday–Saturday schedule, aligned with athletic department needs. This is a full-time, exempt position and is considered an essential employee role for the duration of the assignment. This is a non-benefits eligible position with the exception of those benefits required by law. Full background check required.

Certificates/License: Certification by the NATABOC and eligible for Massachusetts state licensure to practice athletic training.

Education: B.S. in Athletic Training required; Master’s degree preferred.

Physical and Personal: The candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and the physical capacity to stand for long hours, lift equipment and patients, and work in a dynamic athletic environment. Compassion, clear communication, and a team-oriented mindset are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide athletic training services to Phillips Academy students as directed by Medical Director.
Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
Provide athletic training services to Phillips Academy student-athletes under supervision of Director of Athletic Training
Oversee Assigned Training Room space:
Act as liaison between physicians, specialists, Sykes Wellness Center, coaches, athletes and their parents.
Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatment/rehabilitation programs within the Academy’s electronic medical record system.
Work with athletic training staff to provide coaches with information on athletes medically eligible to compete under Phillips Academy policies and state regulations.
Assist Director of Athletics and athletic training staff as requested regarding athletic training duties.
In the event that the Director of Athletic Trainer is unavailable, an Assistant Athletic Trainer may take on a leadership role in regard to decision-making and implementation of the policies and procedures for the athletic training staff.
Maintain active license in good standing to practice Athletic Training in the state of Massachusetts.
Coordinate evidence-based, targeted prevention programs/education.
Preferred Experience:

Minimum of five years working as a certified athletic trainer, ideally in a high school or adolescent student-athlete setting.
