Event Overview
Join us for a webinar delving into the past, present, and future of digital project development in Higher Education. We'll kick off with insights drawn from over fifteen years of web development expertise by Baynard Bailey. Nicole Scalessa will then guide us through contemporary methods for outreach, development, and resource management in digital projects. Finally, Ben Harwood will offer a glimpse into the future of cloud infrastructure. By the end, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how past influences shape current digital resources and what lies ahead. Plus, engage in discussions to assess your institution's unique teaching, learning, and research needs.
Session Outcomes:
Participants will:
-Survey the landscape of current and emerging cloud computing tools that provide the opportunity for technological empowerment and experimentation.
-Review and discuss current tools and concepts for sustainable campus communities and resources online.
-Discuss and analyze their own institution’s teaching, learning and research website needs.

Baynard Bailey, Vassar College, Senior Academic Computing Consultant
Baynard has a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Instructional Technology. He taught for 16 years before coming to Vassar. He loves helping to develop multimedia projects in support of learning and teaching. He organizes and leads numerous workshops throughout the year on topics such as Digital Storytelling, Video & Audio Editing, Poster Creation and Websites for classes.
Ben Harwood, Skidmore College, Learning Experience Designer
Ben is interested in current and emergent technologies as well as traditional and experimental approaches to teaching, collaboration and research. Since 2007, he’s worked as an instructional designer at Skidmore College. Prior to that, he was an instructional designer at the TLT Center at Seton Hall University. Ben also worked as a research technologist and web designer in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State University. He received a B.A. in French Language and Literature and a M.Ed. in Instructional Systems Design from Penn State University. https://harwoodben.com
Nicole H. Scalessa, Vassar College, Head of Digital Scholarship and Technology Services
Nicole is Head of Digital Scholarship and Technology Services at Vassar College Libraries (July 2019-Present) and was previously Chief Information Officer at The Library Company of Philadelphia where she worked for twenty-two years. She has a BA in History from Elmira College, an MBA in IT Management from Western Governors University, and certification in Digital Arts for Print and the Web from Moore College of Art.
Nicole is a member of the Vassar College Committee on Academic Technologies, Vassar College Digital Scholarship Services Collaboration, Fedora Governance, Islandora Foundation LAC-GLAM Interest Group co-coordinator, Digital Library Federation Forum Program and Planning Committees, and DLF Born Digital Access Working Group co-coordinator.
