Join our upcoming workshop, Perfecting the Art of Interviewing in Formal and Informal Contexts. Designed to help job seekers and professionals sharpen their interview skills. This interactive session will cover essential strategies for answering common and challenging questions, making a strong first impression, and confidently showcasing your strengths. This session will also touch on asking the right questions as an interviewer.
Additionally, interviewing isn't just for hiring—it’s a powerful communication tool we use daily, whether we're gathering insights from a colleague, navigating tough conversations, or uncovering shared goals. You'll also learn how to build trust, read between the lines, and use ethical strategies to get the information you need in professional settings.
Session Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- Practice interviewing skills
- Describe how interviewing can be used for other decision-making in the workplace
- Identify and discuss techniques for better interviews

Session One – Wednesday, December 10, 2025
Interviewing Basics
-What is interviewing, and why is it essential for decision-making in the workplace?
-What is motivational interviewing in particular, and what are its benefits and limitations?
-We will demonstrate how interviewing can go wrong and provide basic techniques to help it go right.
We will:
-Discuss and practice interviewing in breakout groups.
-We will then reconvene and discuss what happened in the breakout groups.
-Everyone will get a homework assignment for the second session.
Session Two - Wednesday, December 17. 2025
Application
-Participants will discuss their homework assignment: what went wrong and what went right.
-In breakout groups, participants will discuss ways to integrate interviewing with other information-gathering techniques for workplace decision-making.
Edward O'Neil
Edward R. O’Neill attended Yale College and earned a Ph.D. from UCLA Film School. After several postdoctoral positions and years of teaching film and media studies, Edward worked in learning technology and design at Stanford, the University of Southern California, and Yale University. Edward currently lives in New Haven, Connecticut, and divides his time among teaching, writing, and developing novel learning technology methodologies, including video essays.
