Event Overview
Neurodiversity brings immense value to the workplace, yet it often remains underappreciated or misunderstood. This interactive webinar, hosted by Mitchell College's Hub, will introduce essential concepts and terminology to help participants build awareness and advocate for neuro equity within their institutions. Through scenario evaluations and dynamic discussions, attendees will explore the benefits of embracing neurodiversity to create a workplace culture that enhances employee morale, productivity, and belonging.
Session Outcomes:
Attendees will:
- Gain a deeper understanding of neurodiversity, including key definitions and frameworks.
- Contrast the social and medical models of neurodiversity and their implications in the workplace.
- Explore the value and impact of fostering neurodiversity and inclusion in academic settings.
- Identify actionable strategies to support neuro equity and incorporate neurodiverse practices into their workplace culture.

Karen Bellnier
Karen Bellnier is the Director of Digital Innovation at Mitchell College. She has been working in online learning and instructional design in higher education since 2008. She is a strong advocate for learner success. She has an M.S. in developmental psychology and an M.A. in instructional design and is currently pursuing a doctorate in education. At Mitchell College, she leads the Hub in its mission to create digital innovation and educational excellence that is accessible, flexible and connects learners with each other while accelerating career growth.
Jess Monahan
Jess Monahan is a neurodivergent researcher, advocate, and educator committed to improving outcomes for disabled folx through meaningful, collaborative research. She has a Ph.D from the University of Connecticut and a record of published works, book chapters, and nationally invited talks on neurodiversity and mental health. Acutely aware of the systematic barriers in education and employment for the disabled community, Dr. Monahan is passionate about shifting narratives about disability.
