Jeffrey Berliner

Chief Information Officer at Institute for Advanced Study,

Jeff Berliner has served as the Chief Information Officer at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton,
NJ since 2007. In this role, he is privileged to manage a diverse and dynamic team of 25 staff, and
oversees all aspects of technology strategy, planning, policy and service delivery for one of the world’s
foremost centers of intellectual inquiry and theoretical research.

Before joining IAS, Jeff served as the Director of Systems for the NYU School of Medicine, and the NYU
Medical Center. In addition to these roles, Jeff has served as both Chair and Vice-chair of the NJ CIO
Forum. He has chaired three visiting committees for the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute,
and currently serves as a member of their IT Advisory Committee. Jeff has been a speaker and
moderator for many regional and national events including those for Educause, NJEdge and NJ Boys
State, and currently serves as a mentor in the ACM’s SIGUCCS mentoring program.

On behalf of NERCOMP, Jeff has served as a member of the Professional Development (PD) Committee
since 2019, and currently serves as chair of the Data Analysis Task Force. He has been a speaker and
moderator for NERCOMP webinars, a facilitator for the NC20 and NC21 conferences, and a participant in
Idea Planning Day. He served on the annual conference planning committee in 2021 and 2022, chairing
the Systems and Solutions track, and is currently serving as Vice-Chair for the 2023 conference. Jeff is
also the Institute for Advanced Study’s NERCOMP Institutional Representative.

Jeff holds a Master’s Degree in the Management of Technology from the NYU Polytechnic Institute (now
NYU Tandon School of Engineering), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University at
Albany.
