Intended Audience: Professors, learning designers, library staff, anyone supporting student learning in Higher Education

Proposal:

Utilizing the “Leading Your Learning: Leveraging GenAI in your Academic Studies” course created by the Harvard Medical School (HMS) IT Learning Design team, participants will be engage in conversations aimed to (1) build knowledge of the basics of generative AI, (2) understand the ethical implications of generative AI, (3) analyze ways students are using or could use generative AI in their studies, and (4) create an outline to incorporate generative AI into their practice with the aim to support student learning.

Learning Objectives:
Session 1: Background Knowledge Building
1. Learn about generative AI tools, citation practices, terminology, and the art of prompt writing tailored for higher education.
2. Explore the ethical dimensions of generative AI and recognize the impact on systemic (in)justice.
3. Identify strategies to enhance student learning with generative AI applications in teaching and independent study contexts.

Session 2: Action
1. Develop an actionable plan to integrate generative AI into your specific educational setting.
2. Utilize a note-catcher to compile key information from Session 1, setting the stage for effective Day 2 engagement.
3. Engage in collaborative brainstorming and discussions to share and discover innovative uses of generative AI for student learning enhancement.
