Project Perception preview August 3rd
Project Perception is an agentic system that brings a workforce of specialized AI agents to reason over your security data, tools, and workflows – delivering continuous, proactive defense with a human in control of every critical decision.
Project Perception will use three specialized AI agent teams, which Microsoft is calling Red, Blue, and Green team agents.
- Red team agents simulate attacker behavior to identify vulnerabilities
- Blue team agents detect and investigate threats to determine which risks are harmful
- Green team agents take corrective action to fix and remediate
These color terms are common information security terminology that uses a range of primary colors to categorize the role of each team, such as oppositional (red), defensive (blue), and responsive (green).
Project Perception enters preview release on August 3rd for Microsoft customers who are already testing its agent harness known as MDASH (multi-model agentic scanning harness). A private preview for MDASH can be signed up for here. When officially released, Project Perception, will use consumption based usage through Azure priced through Security Compute Units (SCUs).

Azure Reservation Changes
Starting February 1, 2027, Azure reservation exchanges will not be available for services covered by savings plans. This restriction applies to Azure Virtual Machines, Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, and similar services. Reservations purchased before February 1, 2027, keep the right to one final exchange.
It will be important to review services you want covered by savings plans versus reserved instances. If you need flexibility across services, consider savings plans as a commitment-based option for dynamic workloads. Savings plans are based on a dollar-per-hour spend commitment and automatically apply discounts across eligible compute or database services and regions, making them a good option for dynamic workloads. Alternatively, reservations remain the appropriate option for predictable, stable workloads, and you can continue to purchase them.

Reminder: Windows Server 2016, Windows 10 2016 LTSB, and Windows 10 2021 LTSC End of Support
If your organization has devices running Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 2016 LTSB, Windows 10 2021 LTSC, and Windows Server 2016, plan to migrate devices to a newer, supported version.
If you cannot move to a newer, supported version in time, the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program offers a temporary solution to help keep devices protected in the meantime.
Here are the upcoming end-of-support dates to note:
- Windows Server 2016: January 12, 2027
On these dates, the final monthly security update will be released. Any updates after these dates will require ESU licensing. Read more about the End of Support for these products here and here.

NERCOMP negotiates the best prices and terms possible for its members and works with outside legal counsel to facilitate the arrangements between NERCOMP and the vendors. Any license or agreement accessed or entered into as a benefit of a Consortium Member’s NERCOMP membership is contingent on that institution remaining an active NERCOMP member for the full term of the license or agreement. For example, if a license agreement lasts for a 3 year term, then the Consortium Member must renew its annual NERCOMP membership at least twice to remain an active Consortium Member for the full 3 year term. Failure of a Consortium Member to timely renew its NERCOMP membership status during the term of the license or agreement may result in either a) termination of the license or agreement or b) loss of the discount pricing available exclusively to NERCOMP Consortium members.
Outside counsel conducts an initial legal review of licenses and agreements on behalf of NERCOMP but does not provide an individualized review on behalf of any particular member institution. Each member institution signs its contracts with vendors individually and the institution itself is liable for the rights and obligations therein. Members are strongly encouraged to have their contracts reviewed internally by their own counsel.
NERCOMP also negotiates separate agreements with individual vendors governing NERCOMP’s own relationship with the vendor. Although NERCOMP members are not parties to these agreements, NERCOMP will make copies of available to any member for review, upon request.
