Cindy Mitchell
Cindy is the Chief Information Officer of Colby College in Waterville, Maine where she leads a team of 34 professionals providing academic, administrative, and infrastructure technology services. Since arriving in August of 2016, she has been getting to know the Colby community, its vision and strategic direction.

Prior to her role at Colby, Cindy spent 30 years with the University of Maine System in various information technology roles from Manager of Client Services to Associate Chief Information Officer. In her time at the University of Maine System, she advocated for user needs and participated in complex implementations such as student information systems, human resources, and financial aid. She was responsible for the implementation of the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP. She led the implementation of two separate data warehousing projects and many other systems to support the work of the Universities. As Associate Chief Information Officer, she oversaw the implementation of a Project Management Office, project portfolio management processes, and policy development. She administered the system-wide Information Technology budget. She was a member of the leadership team which led the transition from one central and seven campus information technology departments to a single system-wide information technology department. In her last eighteen months at UMS, she served as the information technology leader at the University of Maine, University of Maine at Fort Kent, and the University of Maine at Machias.

Cindy taught the team building unit of UMS’ Supervisor Development Institute and has been an avid student of leadership, management, and communications. She is a Fellow of the Frye (Leading Change) Institute and has been a SIGUCCS mentor.

Cindy has served NERCOMP for the last three years on the annual conference board, as a proposal reader, and as a track chair. She has volunteered at the conference, co-taught a professional development day on Team Building, participated in professional development planning, taken advantage of and sent staff to many of the excellent professional development opportunities it provides. Cindy has presented at NERCOMP, Educause, and NEACRO conferences. She has participated as a proposal reader for Educause for the last four years, served on three ECAR research teams, and served on the Core Data Service advisory group.

The part of her job she loves the most is the daily engagement with faculty, staff, and students and to ensure through those relationships, IT services are meeting their needs and are positioned for the future.
