Let Your Data Tell a Story: Building a Practice of Data-Driven Decision-Making

Rachael Coombes
Rachael is a business intelligence specialist at Wellesley College.  After having been introduced to data analytics as a pilot user of Wellesley's business intelligence (BI) system, she was recruited from her administrative role in the provost's office to join the IT department.  In her role, Rachael supports the expanding practice of business intelligence analytics and reporting across the college by developing, delivering, and supporting strategic and ad hoc dashboards/reports used for analysis, decision-making, and operational reporting.  She also provides training and support to help administrative offices adopt new BI technologies. Rachael earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College in 2012 and her MS in data analytics from Southern New Hampshire University in 2015.


Rachel Kell
Rachel is an Analyst in the Data Strategy & Analytics group at Tufts University. Previously, she spent 10 years as Health Care Informatics Consultant and 3 as a Manager of Commercial Analytics for a Pharmaceutical company. She has a BA  degree from Williams College in Biology with a Minor in Mathematics and an MPH from Boston University School of Public Health in Health Policy & Management with a focus on Quality Assessment.


Kevin Murphy
Kevin holds a B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Tufts University. He is the Manager of IT Service Management at Tufts University where he oversees service management processes as part of the Service Planning and Assessment group. Kevin has worked in higher education IT for the last 20 years. He previously held the title of Manager of Support Services for Tufts University School of Medicine. 


Hui Xiong
Hui Xiong is the Associate Director of Institutional Research. Hui joined Wellesley College in August 2016. Prior to Wellesley, she served for five years as the Associate Director of Institutional Research at Lesley University, Hui came to the United States from China to attend graduate school. She received her PhD in Research, Statistics, and Evaluation from Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia after working in publishing in Beijing for four years.
