Leading Change in an AI-Driven World: A Panel Discussion for Information Professionals - a Leadership Ecosystem Webinar

David Andres

David Andres serves as Trinity’s first Chief Data and Analytics Officer. In this role, he leads the Analytics and Strategic Initiatives Center (ASIC), which provides analysis, research, and curated data to support a strengthened culture of planning and evaluation across the college. The ASIC team is responsible for the college’s institutional research functions and the development of its next-generation data warehouse and analytics platform. Through this work, the team shares insights and analyses that inform decision-making at all levels of the college’s leadership and support the implementation of its strategic initiatives.

Andres also serves as Trinity’s accreditation liaison officer to the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), the college’s regional accreditation agency. In that capacity, he shared a leadership role in facilitating the college’s self-study report and the decennial comprehensive evaluation by the Commission in 2016, and the fifth-year report in 2022.

In prior roles at Trinity, Andres was special assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff, and before that, served as director of strategic projects for the student life division. He earned a B.S. in biology from Trinity.

 

Jeff Berliner

Jeff Berliner has served as the Chief Information Officer at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ since 2007. In this role, he is privileged to manage a diverse and dynamic team of 25 staff and oversees all aspects of technology strategy, planning, policy, and service delivery for one of the world’s foremost centers of intellectual inquiry and theoretical research.

Before joining IAS, Jeff served as the Director of Systems for the NYU School of Medicine and the NYU Medical Center. In addition to these roles, Jeff has served as both Chair and Vice-chair of the NJ CIO Forum. He has chaired three visiting committees for the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute
and currently serves as a member of their IT Advisory Committee. Jeff has been a speaker and
moderator for many regional and national events including those for Educause, NJEdge and NJ Boys State, and currently serves as a mentor in the ACM’s SIGUCCS mentoring program.

On behalf of NERCOMP, Jeff has served as a member of the Professional Development (PD) Committee since 2019 and currently serves as chair of the Data Analysis Task Force. He has been a speaker and moderator for NERCOMP webinars, a facilitator for the NC20 and NC21 conferences, and a participant in Idea Planning Day. He served on the annual conference planning committee in 2021 and 2022, chairing the Systems and Solutions track, and is currently serving as Vice-Chair for the 2023 conference. Jeff is also the Institute for Advanced Study’s NERCOMP Institutional Representative.

Jeff holds a Master’s Degree in the Management of Technology from the NYU Polytechnic Institute (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University at Albany.

 

Michael Cato

Michael leads Bowdoin College's Information Technology strategy and operations through the Information and Technology department and has spent over 20 years in Higher Education IT. He is active in a number of professional organizations such as CAUDIT, EDUCAUSE, and NERCOMP, with an emphasis on leadership development, inclusive leadership, and the array of issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion. He is the 2022 Technology Executive of the Year – Education award winner from the IT Senior Management Forum (ITSMF), and the 2021 recipient of the EDUCAUSE DEI Leadership Award.
Michael holds a B.S. in Zoology from Andrews University and an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University. He loves to learn, read, eat, occasionally cook, and starts most days being humbled by CrossFit. Michael is raising an awesome son with his partner and wife Heather.

 

Erin DeSilva

Erin DeSilva is the Senior Director, Learning, Design, and Innovation in ITC at Dartmouth College. She works with a team of talented learning designers and educational technologists to support faculty in their course design as well as to manage the technology that helps facilitate student learning. Prior to joining Dartmouth in 2015, Erin worked as an Instructional Designer at Brown University and an Educational Technologist at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where her responsibilities included training and supporting faculty, designing and building courses, and other front-end infrastructure support. Erin has been involved in NERCOMP since 2009, facilitating SIG/Professional Development Opportunities and serving on the conference Program Committee, where she is currently vice-chair of the 2021 Annual Conference. She has led NERCOMP sessions on learning management systems, collaborative writing, assessment technologies, library/IT collaboration, and accessibility, among other topics. Erin is also a beneficiary of NERCOMP’s member services, and a strong believer in NERCOMP’s inspirational ability to lift up individuals while excelling in the innovation and important maintenance of the consortium.

As an instructional designer and academic technology specialist, Erin supported LMS and other educational technologies, including front-end support, faculty development and training. As a leader of her department, she provided strategic direction, oversaw purchasing and contract negotiation, and served as a liaison between ITC, faculty, and academic leadership throughout the pandemic crisis.

Erin earned her Bachelor’s degree at Simmons College and her Master’s degree in Educational Media at Boston University. She lives in Norwich, VT with her husband Jerry and children Ben and Josie. She owes so much to NERCOMP that she is thrilled to chair the 2022 Annual Conference and hopes through her time on the Board to enable others to experience the value she has gained from this organization.
