Event Overview
What can educators do with apps that are readily available but might not sound familiar?  The App Experience, is a prototype webpage, a type of self-service, friendly portal for students, faculty and staff to investigate vetted apps.  This type of user-friendly experience will help with choosing and assessing apps for useful accessibility features, and a skill set focusing on executive function areas.

Apps in the portal incorporate accessibility features that can be used by all students. This model aligns with a universal design mindset.  Many universities have webpages promoting well-known mobile apps; but often they are not usable by students with disabilities, or are incredibly difficult to navigate through.  In launching this pilot, we collaborated with the university’s Department of Accessibility team, and focused on apps that were specifically chosen for self-identified students with learning, medical and general cognitive disabilities. We also reference Bloom’s digital taxonomy, the SAMR model and the App Wheel of Padaogy version 5.0.

Session Outcomes
-  Ability to recognize and review 7 accessibility features when vetting  apps
-  Ability to recognize the executive skill sets when evaluating apps
-  Review apps with a checklist  type matrix including Blooms digital taxonomy, SAMR , EF, and accessible feature
