Event Overview
Are you challenged with finding ways to engage students in the new (post-pandemic) educational environment? Join your colleagues to explore some support strategies that may help address a more personalized student learning experience.
In the last year, the educational system has experienced a shift in teaching and learning the size of which is without comparisons. New delivery systems had to be implemented in many instances with little or no long-term or phased-in planning impacting the way operations among support areas are administered. As society continues to adapt to the dramatic needs of teachers and students reshaping a “new normal” has brought on numerous challenges. The learning demographics that defined our students prior to this past year has changed, and the requirement for providing support is increasingly evident and increasingly documented. Although a wide range of supports are present in many of our educational settings, the question of how they are performing under current education conditions remains to be examined fully. As more and more students succumb to an alarming level of disengagement from their hybrid or remote learning environments, the question of the effect of support strategies utilized to support student engagement must be addressed.
In this session, the concept of effective support strategies for K-12 and post-secondary students as they relate to our current and future educational environment will be addressed. Identifying what works, what doesn’t work, and what can further be explored will be presented with a focus on student experience approaches that personalize student learning in the online world and narrow anticipated learning gaps for some of our most challenged students.
The presentation addresses the awareness and utilization around effective support strategies in response to instructional challenges produced by COVID-19 in identified key areas. Concepts that define effective learning culture for instructors and administrators, as well as professional practices resulting from their educational experiences, will be analyzed through the lens of an ongoing study presently being conducted by both presenters.
Learning Outcomes:
Through the collection and presentation of data on this topic, the following objectives will be discussed in an asynchronous format:
- Identify and determine levels of awareness of support strategies within administrative and instructional roles and the degree to which implementation reflects a shared understanding of best practices by each group.
- Apply data-based decision making to inform policy-based initiatives addressing COVID challenges impacting, teaching, and learning, leadership and organizational development, and the need to narrow the learning loss experienced by COVID.
