Bridging the Gap: Navigating Communication in Today's Complex Workplace - Webinar

Anita Davis 

Dr. Anita Davis began serving as the inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Trinity College in Hartford, CT in September 2018. In this role, she provides strategic leadership to advance institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals. As part of her responsibilities, she co-directs the Office of Human Resources, serves as co-chair of both the College’s Task Force on Campus Climate and the Campus Climate Incident Response Team, and serves as the liaison to the Board of Trustees DEI Committee. 

Her office is comprised of four departments: Multicultural Affairs, the Queer Resource Center, the Women and Gender Resource Action Center, and Title IX. Prior to coming to Trinity, Dr. Davis served as Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the Associated Colleges of the South, a consortium of sixteen liberal arts colleges and universities, supporting member institutions in advancing their diversity and inclusion goals on campus and in their communities. Prior to that, she was a tenured faculty member and administrator at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. At Rhodes College, she was the inaugural director of the African American Studies Program for five years, and associate dean of academic affairs for seven years, with responsibilities including accreditation, curriculum and program assessment, faculty evaluation and mentoring, and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives. 

Dr. Davis has over 20 years of experience helping institutions assess and build capacity to address social problems. As a clinical/community psychologist, she brings a strengths-based, collaborative, and action-oriented approach to her work. A member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, Davis holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in clinical/community psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a B.A. from Rhodes College.


 

 Stacy Hopwood 

Stacy Hopwood is a colonel in the U.S. Army currently serving as the Director, Army Public Affairs Center (and School) where she is focused on building the future of the Army's strategic communications career field. Prior to her current position she worked on an executive communication team at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. developing strategies and plans for engagements and travel with various community stakeholders, international partners and allies, and press.

Prior to the Pentagon, she served as the Director of Training for Communication Leaders at the Defense Information School, the only Department of Defense school dedicated to teaching communication strategy, journalism, and visual storytelling. As the director, she led her team in developing human-centered curriculum and reoriented the delivery of the content to better support adult learners. During her tenure, she hired and retained the most diverse staff and faculty in the school’s 57-year history.

She has over 22 years of experience in leading various DoD organizations through times of organizational change by providing vision and a well thought out strategy. She's currently ABD for a Doctorate in Executive Leadership with an emphasis in leader behavior style and self-development at the University of Charleston. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communication from Georgetown University, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, and a B.A. in Economics from Centre College.
