Event Overview

Spend a day immersed in games. How and why are libraries incorporating serious educational games, game-like elements (i.e. gamification), and game collections and events into their services, outreach, and instruction programs? Hear perspectives from faculty affiliated with the nationally renowned interactive media & game development programs at Becker College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Librarians from around the New England region will participate in two panels on which they will share experiences, best practices, policies, and great ideas in games collections, educational library games, and gaming events planning.

SIG Attendees will leave with:
• An understanding of and examples of serious education games and how they can be successfully applied in libraries and other informal learning environments.
• An understanding of games and gamification and how they relate to libraries.
• Strategies for starting or maintaining game collections in libraries.
• Ideas of next steps on how to develop fun and educational gaming activities and events in attendees’ libraries.
