Designing Your Life: Using Design Thinking to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Professional and Personal Life

Agenda

June 16, 2020 – Day 1

12:00pm - 1:00pm – Optional lunch

            Informal start to the workshop with the opportunity to meet facilitators and participants

1:00pm - 6:00pm

  • Opening and introductions
  • Introduction to design thinking and the life design methodology
    • Define the design thinking and the life design framework including designer’s mindsets and tools.
  • Workview and lifeview integration -
    • Define and discuss what work and life mean to you; Reflect on how enhanced integration may increase sense of flourishing.
  • Optional - Point of impact and change
    • Explore current and past roles and identify what you need to be challenged and fulfilled at work.
  • Balance and energy
    • Design the balance and energy you need to fuel your work and your life.
  • Framing problems and ideation
    • Frame and reframe problems or areas where you’ve been stuck and engage in “radical collaboration” and ideation for new solutions that energize you and increase your chance of creating something that can work for you.

June 17, 2020 – Day 2

7:30pm - 8:00am – Breakfast

8:00am - 1:00pm

  • Odyssey planning
    • Ideation exercise to get unstuck -- Envision three alternative life paths with personal and professional goals. This can include designing next steps in your current role, as well as considering future career and life directions.
  • Choosing and discernment
    • Explore research that supports a four-step choosing model; Hone your own decision-making process and discernment practices.
  • Prototyping
    • Brainstorm a list of prototypes (quick, easy, affordable, low-risk ways of experiencing what interests you most).  Choose from these ideas based on unique criteria.

 Action planning

  • Plan for action using the science of change.  Employing a bias to action, you will learn how to build your way forward in small steps (with rewards and support), into the next chapter of your career and life.
  • Closing and next steps
