Event Overview
Data tells a story.  However, telling an effective story is part art, part science.  Good data storytelling combines data management, building good data visualizations, defining the right KPIs, design thinking, user experience, wireframing, and hoping that the result in a good story.  Data Storytelling is often called the “last mile” of data analytics.

According to Brent Dykes, author of “Effective Data Storytelling:  How to Drive Change with Data, Narrative, and Visuals,” data storytelling combines data, visualizations, and narrative.  This session will help you:  gather information about the data needs, define your audiences/personas for your data story, identify the questions you need to have answered by the dashboard and align them with strategic goals, understand and manage data quality, determine the specifications for your dashboard in a wireframe, and choose the right method and narrative for your data story.

This session will be led by experts in the higher education data analytics field, with specific and especially timely case studies and examples based on this year’s FAFSA changes, among many other changes.

Session Outcomes:
Participants will:
- Understand the many aspects of telling a good data story
-Describe and apply tools to develop data story strategies themselves
